The author fills a fundamental gap in the knowledge of fish worldwide. This is the first large-scale work that allows the identification of more than 1,000 species of marine fish along the Brazilian coast, from the Guianas to Argentina.
Regarding this update: Text changes are in bold or bold italics and may include information on feeding, size, occurrence, reproduction, habits, depth gradient, taxonomic details, and new species recorded for marine and/or estuarine waters. Several of these are already integrated into the main edition and are: Abudefduf hoefleri, Chascanopsetta danae, Coptodon rendalli, Hypoclinemus mentalis, Jenynsia darwini, Lutjanus mahogoni, Mobula yarae, Neoconger analisae, Neoconger hygomi, Odontoscion pepojuba, Pachyurus bonariensis, Parachromis managuernsis, Ramnogaster melanostoma e Rhonciscus wagneri.
Other species included in this version are listed in ANNEX I, starting on page 427, edited due to a complete lack of space in the digital version of the work.
There are additions and deletions in Chapter 6 (References), which are not spelled differently from the original. All changes to scientific and common names have been included in the Index of the original version.
